UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has accepted the resignation of Mehboob Ali, the drug-peddling Backward Classes Minister.

New Delhi: UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has accepted the resignation of Mehboob Ali, the Backward Classes Minister who was caught on camera taking bribe and admitted to drug-trafficking.

Ali admitted on hidden camera that he was a drug trafficker and demanded Rs 20 lakh to ferry narcotics worth Rs 1 crore in his official car from Barabanki to Delhi.

The expose had kicked up a storm in UP Assembly and the Opposition had immediately demanded that Ali be sacked, but Mulayam had refused and settled for a probe by the UP Assembly speaker.

The Chief Minister seemed to have succumbed to mounting media and Opposition pressure.

However, it's not clear whether Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati would take similar action against the MLA from her party – Anil Kumar Maurya.

In a startling revelation, CNN-IBN and DIG exposed the deep-rooted rot in Uttar Pradesh’s political set up - cutting across party lines. Three MLAs, one each from BJP, Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, were caught on camera accepting bribe and admitting to heinous crimes like trafficking, drug peddling and hawala racket.

A CNN-IBN and DIG investigation on political corruption in the Hindi Heartland showed us a slice of the grim reality as it exists in Uttar Pradesh. Read Story
