BHUBANESWAR: Commuters of the Twin City had a tough time on Monday as the NH-5 was partially blocked by a trailer which had met with an accident early in the morning. Vehicular traffic along the busy route was seriously hit for several hours. Travelling from Cuttack to the capital took nearly two hours. Police said the driver of the trailer apparently lost control and the vehicle went downhill from the NH towards the vacant land.  However, the rear end of the cargo vehicle blocked one lane and obstructed smooth movement. The Commissionerate Traffic rushed a crane to the spot which broke down. Another was brought in from Cuttack but was of little  help. Police then tried to evacuate the traffic through a change-over. It only eased the congestion a little. The traffic movement swelled during the office hours and made the matters worse. “The bus I was travelling in from Cuttack took well over two hours to reach Bhubaneswar since traffic was moving at a snail’s pace,” said Rangadhar Sarangi, an employee with a private company. Eventually, the road was cleared at about 1 pm when the police managed to displace the trailer using chains attached to a tree operated through a pulley.
