HYDERABAD: An IIM Kolkata student from city, who was mountaineering on Kanchenjunga ranges on the Indo-Nepal border, died allegedly due to altitude sickness two days ago. The 26-year-old student, Damarla Srinath, was pursuing his second year management course at IIM Kolkata.Srinath’s father, Nageshwar Rao, is a businessman from the city.According to information reaching here, Srinath was among a 40-member team who set off on September 29 from Yuksom to Dzongri.The group had 26 foreigners and others were students of IIM Kolkata.As the group reached an altitude of more than 5,000 metres above the sea level near Dzongri, Srinath reportedly complained of dizziness, headache and weakness, which were said to be symptoms associated with altitude sickness.Two other foreigners also reportedly suffered similar symptoms and were given first-aid.Assisted by a guide and some porters, Srinath tried to come down to Yuksom on October 5 and reached a place called Tshoka by night.The next morning he walked some distance and collapsed.He was declared dead by the doctors.Sikkim police registered a case. It is learnt that the relatives of the youngster reached Sikkim to take the body.An autopsy was conducted and the body is likely to reach the city tonight.
