BANGALORE: As a part of the ongoing golden jubilee celebrations of the 109 Helicopter Unit of Indian Air Force (IAF), a motorcycle expedition covering approximately 1,750 kms through, hills, ghats, forests, plantations and other historical and heritage sites across Karnataka, was flagged off by Air Commodore B S Yadav, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Yelahanka. The expedition will travel through Mysore, Kodagu, Mangalore, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Belur and Halebid before terminating at Sravanabelagola. The team of 20 riders will be headed by Wing Commander V S Srihari, Commanding Officer of the 109 Helicopter Unit. The aim of the expedition is to meet school and college students to motivate them to take up a profession in the armed forces and also to highlight the rich and varied heritage of Karnataka. The motorcycle expedition is also dedicated to preserving the rich flora and fauna of the Karnataka with emphasis on the ecology of the Western Ghats.
