I and B Ministry reconsidering single window for foreign film shoot
At present, filmmakers require various permissions, including visa clearances for shooting their films.

New Delhi: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry is taking steps to revive its plan to establish a mechanism on the lines of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board which would function as a single window clearance for foreign filmmakers who want to shoot films in India.

Officials said this new body could involve various ministries like Home, External Affairs, Railways and departments of the central government besides representatives of the state governments.

At present, filmmakers require various permissions, including visa clearances, security clearances, permissions from local civic and police officials, for shooting their films.

The I&B Ministry had earlier taken an initiative to set up a film commission as a one stop clearance window for filmmakers but there were reports that the Home Ministry had at that time expressed reservations.

There was also a disagreement over calling the single window clearance mechanism a commission. Currently, the Ministry is considering names like Film Promotional and Facilitation Board.
