As per the information by Local18, the magnificent ancient mansion is located on the Varkala-Kavalayoor road in Perettil junction, Ottur panchayath. The monument was constructed in the 18th century, between the years 1729 and 1758, during Marthanda Varma’s reign.
It is built in a unique manner, which incorporates the state’s traditional architecture. Intricate carvings can be observed on the walls of the building, giving it a regal look. According to more information given, the mansion includes a spacious courtyard, which is surrounded by living quarters. The place is also constructed with a stunning and well-maintained garden, a charming addition to the property. The Perettil Vazhiyambalam mansion is believed to have been built by a rich family in the 18th century. It is now considered a popular tourist destination.
Local18 states that it is included in one of the 18 roadside constructions on the route of Kanyakumari to Varkala. It is believed that Marthanda Varma, a ruler who expanded his kingdom through wars, was experiencing unbearable guilt because of his past deeds. So, to atone for his sins, 18 roadsides, 18 wells, 18 ports, 18 ponds and 18 steps across the state.
