BHUBANESWAR: The Assembly was adjourned on the first day of the winter session on Friday after making obituary reference to victims of the recent floods, a sitting member, ex-MLAs and slain police personnel.The members observed two minutes silence after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik moved the obituary reference in the House as soon as it convened. Naveen paid his respects to Jagabandhu Majhi, a sitting MLA gunned down by suspected Maoists at Umerkote on September 24. He described him as a great tribal leader who all along fought for the rights of the tribals.Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh of Congress, BJP legislature party leader K V Singh Deo, NCP legislature party leader Amar Prasad Satpathy and CPI’s lone member Adikanda Sethi also paid tributes to Majhi.About 86 persons persihed in two spells of devastating floods in September. The House proceedings will resume from Monday, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat said.
