High drama as woman climbs tank

HYDERABAD: A woman climbed atop a water tank near Kacheguda on Friday threatening to end her life if she was not married to her lover.After nearly three hours of drama, police brought a hydraulic platform called snorkel and brought her down safely.Reshma (22) was a native of Suryapet in Nalgonda district and married. Reshma fell in love with one Kumara Swamy from Godavarikhani and believing he would marry her, divorced her husband.Reshma was staying at Ramanthapur while Kumara Swamy stayed at Uppal. But Kumara Swamy left the woman and she lodged a cheating case against him at Uppal police.With Kumara Swamy avoiding her, Reshma came near RTC quarters at Kacheguda on her moped on Friday morning around 5.30 a.m and climbed the tank. She then threatened to jump down claiming she was cheated by her lover.The woman even claimed she was pregnant."We immediately took precautionary measures to ensure the woman did not get injured even if she falls and contacted Kumara Swamy. He was brought to the spot to persuade her to come down," Kacheguda police inspector Koteshwara Rao said.The woman, however, did not relent and wanted a clear assurance from Kumara Swamy on their marriage. Finally, police brought a snorkel of the fire services to reach the top of the water tank.Kumara Swamy and few others reached the top of the tank by the snorkel and held discussions with the woman. After getting an assurance she would be married to her lover, Reshma agreed to climb down.
