Chennai: Chennai's water woes are seemingly endless this winter. After a tsunami, floods and two cyclone threats, another depression has formed over the Southwest Bay on Friday.

At 0830 hrs on Saturday, the depression lay centred about 600 km east southeast off Nagapattinam.

Coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry are likely to experience widespread rainfall in the next 48-hours.

The system is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction, Met Department officials said.

Under its influence, rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry and at a few places over interior Tamil Nadu.

Isolated heavy rain is also likely to occur over coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry during the next 48 hours.

Strong winds with speeds reaching 50-60 kmph are also likely along and off Tamil Nadu coast. Officials said the sea would be very rough and it would not be advisable for fishermen to venture out to sea.

Meanwhile, Chennai has been experiencing a steady drizzle since Friday morning and the minimum temperature has fallen to 22 degrees celcius.
