New Delhi: The Calcutta High Court — for the second time on Wednesday — deferred the hearing of the cases filed against the West Bengal government in connection with police firing in Nandigram on March 14.
At least 14 people were killed and over 100 injured in the incident. The victims were protesting acquisition of farmland for an industrial project.
The division bench comprising Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh and Justice Biswanath Samaddar, which had on Monday postponed the hearing till Wednesday, further deferred the hearing till April 26.
The bench said giving adequate time to the petitioners and the defendants to go through the documents on the incidents, which took place on March 14.
The much-awaited hearing was first postponed on Monday after the West Bengal Government prayed for time to go through the documents submitted by the litigants.
There is uproar all across Bengal, there are protests in the streets, intellectuals have returned their awards from state government and there has been an all around bewilderment and confusion regarding the issue.
