New Delhi: Indian doctor Mohammed Haneef, charged in connection with last month's failed UK terror attack, will not be extradited to the UK.
Australia Attorney General Philip Ruddock said Australia will not extradite Haneef because the country’s laws don't permit extradition while proceedings against him continue in the country.
"In relation to extradition, Australia would not normally surrender a person for extradition where there were outstanding matters that had to be dealt with here," Ruddock was quoted by a newspaper as saying.
Twenty seven-year-old Haneef, who was taken into custody on July 2 when he attempted to leave Australia, was charged on Saturday with providing "reckless" support to a terrorist group.
He is being held until at least Monday when a Brisbane court decides whether to grant him bail or not.
