Grief, mobile theft mark Mahajan funeral
The deep sense of loss and shock did not end with Mahajan's demise, many people also lost their cell phones.

Mumbai: Late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan's funeral in Mumbai not only marked a great loss for the family and his admirers, but also for many attendants, who became unsuspecting victims of cellphone thieves.

As many as 35 complaints of cellphone theft were registered with the Mumbai police after the funeral.

“It was very crowded and some people stumbled and fell. We received 30-35 complaints of lost mobile phones on that day," senior police inspector, Shivaji Park Police Station, Suryakant Chatur said.

The crematorium appeared to be one turbulent sea of white. Mourners clad in kurta-pyjama's jostled for elbow space and while some lost their phones by accidentm many other cellphones were simply flicked by more experienced hands.

BJP party worker Shamsher Singh recounts the mayhem in which he lost his cellphone. "There was a commotion near the entrance where the police was standing. People started tripping and that's when the phones fell out of people’s pockets," he said.

While some thieves were caught, none of the lost phones were found. Singh, therefore, went ahead and did what anyone else would do in such a situation. He got himself another cellphone.
