Expressing concern over atrocities and violence against women, Governor Margaret Alva on Saturday said that it was disappointing that the youths despite spread of awareness and education are not as much sensitive to such issues as they are supposed to be.
Speaking at a function in Jaipur, Alva said efforts are being made to stop atrocities against women and legislations have also been passed, but contribution of educated youths in the improvement of situation is not satisfactory.
Referring to 2011 census, Alva said that sex ratio, in those districts where literacy level is high, is against female which indicates that more efforts are needed to done.
"The situation of women had not been so bad in India but today violence against them is on large scale. This is a cause of concern for all.
"Women like Arunima Sinha have set examples. She lost her leg after being thrown off a moving train but despite that, she climbed Mount Everest and proved that faith can move mountains," she said in an award ceremony by International Vaish Federation.
The governor also called upon political parties to get inspiration from some social organisations working for good in society and said that political parties in parliament and state assemblies should be united on fundamental issues.
Alva said that political people were not been able make a consensus on food security for the public.
"Politicians should try best to promote politics of consensus," she added.
