THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Various trade unions of the Kerala Water Authority has called for government intervention to resolve the problems faced by the Authority. The KWA which spends Rs 11.11 for distributing 1,000 litres of water, receives only Rs 4.50 as revenue, said a joint statement by the associations. The subsidised distribution to those belonging to the BPL category is also incurring additional expenses to the authority. The additional expenses incurred by the KWA in a month is around Rs 15 crore. A similar amount has to be paid as electricity bills. While the KSEB incurred a loss of Rs 324 core by onetime settlement to the KWA, the Authority incurred a loss of Rs 250 crore in the onetime settlement scheme offered to LSG institutions. The cabinet sub-committee formed to resolve the issue has not made any constructive intervention, the Associations flayed. The statement was issued by CITU, INTUC, AITUC, UTUC and APHEK.
