New Delhi: Celebrating the last day of the year with a recap of some of this year's top trending searches, including the 2014 World Cup, the Philae robotic lander, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and Flappy Bird, with a shout-out to the Mars Orbiter Mission, Google has posted a colourful animated doodle on its homepage. Clicking on the doodle takes you to the top 2014 trending topics.
It is in tune with Google's tradition of posting a doodle on New Year's Eve.
Google, on New Year's Eve 2013, posted an animated doodle that showed a party on with speakers blaring and the digits 2-0-1-3 grooving on the dance floor, while the digit 4, signifying the New Year, was waiting in the wings.
Taking into account the sensitivity and anger of Indian citizens following the brutal Delhi gangrape case, Google in 2012 did not post the New Year's eve doodle on the India homepage. It had instead, in the memory of the Delhi braveheart, placed a subtle vigil candle below its search box on the Google India homepage. But in other countries of the world, Google, on December 31, 2012, posted a doodle that was an assortment of 35 doodles that appeared during the year 2012.
