Panaji: Goa Police claim to have solved the serial killing case of four women with the arrest of two persons. The duo has reportedly confessed to killing the victims with an intention to rob them.
“Syran Rodrigues (20) and Chandrakant Talwar (35), who were arrested by the state Crime Branch on Friday from Mumbai, have admitted to killing all the four women, found dead on October 12 and 13,” superintendent of police (PRO) Atmaram Deshpande said.
Initially, the duo, who was earlier booked in a robbery case, admitted to have murdered only three women but later confessed to the four killings, Deshpande said.
Police, who brought the two accused in Panaji on Saturday morning, also say that there can be more people involved in the serial killings.
The mysterious death of four women, including 16-year-old Evita Rodrigues whose body was found at Verna and 60-year-old Concessao Fernandes, whose body was recovered from Merces, had baffled the Goa Police.
Deshpande said that they are yet to establish the identity of two more women, including one, who seems to be a newly-wed.
“Initial investigations have revealed that they killed the women for gain and ran away with the gold on their bodies,” Deshpande said. He ruled out sexual abuse as the motive behind the killings.
Police said that both the accused are part of an infamous gang of robbers, who had attempted to rob a jewellery shop at Marcel, 25 km away from Panaji.
“We have put them to sustained interrogation and we are corroborating the statement given by each of them,” Deshpande said.
Since Monday, Goa Police have found 10 bodies, of which four are women.
Of these four, three bodies were charred and the fourth girl was found with her head smashed with a stone in the outskirts of Panaji.
All the bodies were found around Panaji city within a radius of 30 km.
