CHENNAI: Students from various schools in the city and Anna University participated in a walkathon to create awareness on ‘Women’s Literacy’ at the Marina Beach recently.  Around 350 students participated in this walkathon, which was flagged off by Shakeel Akthar, Inspector General of Police, Chennai. A momentous pledge was taken by the girl students from the government schools to pursue their education. This was followed by a pledge from the rest of the participants to help the girl students achieve their dream of acquiring a complete education. Chandan Jain, Joint Managing Director, Vijay Shanthi Builders Ltd, the organiser of the event, said, “The event was aimed at creating an awareness for literacy among the general public, business owners and other organisations who have the power to bring the desired change in society. The idea is to create and foster a culture of educated and powerful women.”  Vijay Shanthi Builders is one of the prominent real-estate builders in Chennai.
