HYDERABAD: The Joint Action Committee of GHMC Workers Union and Bhagyanagar Municipal Employees Union, which were thinking of resuming two services _ issuance of birth and death certificates, and property tax collection _ from Monday have dropped the idea and decided to continue their strike as part of the Sakala Janula Samme. Union leaders, who held a meeting, decided to continue the strike and to hand over a letter to the commissioner on Monday. It was also decided to stage a hunger strike at the head office on Monday.Earlier, municipal administration minister M Maheedhar Reddy, in the presence of GHMC commissioner MT Krishna Babu, held talks with the GHMC-JAC and BMS Employees Union led by its president K Shankar, additional general secretary Vinay Kapoor and others at the Secretariat on Saturday.The minister appealed to the striking employees to resume their duties in respect of the two services in the interest of the city and assured them that genuine demands like regularisation of NMR employees would be considered.On allotment of house-sites to employees, the minister said a committee would be appointed within 15 days to fix the rates. Some 400 government quarters in Azampura, Ziaguda, Domalguda, Ghodekikhaber, Bhoiguda and Falaknuma will be allotted to GHMC employees. The minister also assured to fill up the 6,000 backlog vacancies.Despite the assurance, the union leaders said their strike would continue until a Telangana bill was moved in Parliament.
