New Delhi: A day after blaming the Ghaziabad Police for not being able to control the violence that left six people dead, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken action against several district and police officials.
Those suspended include the Masuri police station in-charge, a sub inspector with the local intelligence unit. The deputy superintendent, in-charge of the intelligence unit may also be suspended.
It has also been recommended that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate be transferred.
On Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minsiter Akhileh Yadav had alleged that the police failed to diffuse tension despite having information that violence could break out. An angry mob had attacked the Mansuri police station and set 20 vehicles on fire, after reports that a holy book had been desecrated.
The police resorted to firing on the mob after it went out of control. Three policemen were critically injured. The Uttar Pradesh government has announced compensation of Rs five lakh for those killed in the violence.
