The Netherlands continued their unbeaten run with a 6-0 pasting.

New Delhi: Defending champions Germany won their third match in the Hockey World Cup when they beat Argentina 4-3 in Pool A on Day 6 of the event.

Martin Zwicker gave a perfect start to Germany in the fifth minute with a rebound slammed into the net. Argentina levelled the game in the next minute through Lucas Vila.

Martin Zwicker got his second through a penalty corner and Matthias Witthaus fired in the third for Germany. Matias Paredes scored twice through penalty corners but was not enough for Argentina as Martin Haner sealed the win with the fourth goal for the defending champions.

In another fixture earlier, New Zealand kept their hopes of a semi-final place alive with a 2-1 win over South Korea.

The Black Sticks went into the lead in the fourth minute of play with Andy Hayward scoring through a penalty corner.

The Koreans were clearly rattled and much of the game was dominated by New Zealand in the first half. Another goal was scored before the hooter which came from Dean Couzins, who converted a penalty stroke.

The second half too produced few scoring chances. The Koreans were able to get one back, also through a penalty stroke. But New Zealand held on for their second win of the tournament in three matches.

Meanwhile, two goals apiece from Taeke Taekema and Rogier Hofman helped contenders Netherlands rout Canada 6-0 in another Pool A encounter for their third successive win.

After having won their first two games, the Dutch came out all guns blazing but failed to find the net in the first half.

But Taekema, the leading scorer in the tournament, opened the floodgates in the 41st minute, and from then on, it was just one-way traffic as the Canadians were thrown off balance by the splurge of goals.
