KOCHI: Due to the lackadaisical attitude of the Health Department, the Regional Public Health Laboratory (RPHL) in Kochi faces a dilemma each time the power is disrupted. This is inspite of having a generator. The generator, installed over a decade ago, went defunct on the day of its inauguration and has been so ever since. Despite repeated complaints from, the RPHL, the Public Works Department and the Health officials, it is yet to be repaired. The RPHL, which is a reference laboratory to the neighbouring districts as well, needs to have continuous power supply to conduct certain tests and power failures also threaten to damage samples, said the concerned authorities.“We have sent countless requests, to the concerned authorities, asking them to either repair or replace the generator. It has been this way for so many years that nobody even knows where the key to the generator room is,” said Dr.Mangala Kumari, Senior Medical Officer, Regional Public Health Laboratory.
