HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is planning to use bio-metric devices for attendance, on-site monitoring system for lifting of bins and GPS for garbage vehicle tracking to improve efficiency of the sanitary system.Reviewing the work of various GHMC wings on Monday, municipal commissioner MT Krishna Babu expressed displeasure with the present sanitary system, particularly garbage lifting and staff attendance.He directed officials for putting bin lifting timings on walls behind the garbage bin to ensure collection of garbage. He asked deputy municipal commissioners take up surprise checks early in the morning, to ensure daily lifting of garbage.He directed officials to make sure no plastic carry bags are given free of cost, with the maximum price being `5. “The rates of carry bags should be displayed at the cash counter and thickness of the carry bag, PCB registration number and address of the manufacturer printed on the bag,” Krishna Babu added.He also asked officials to give clearance to pending building permission files by July 30. On the matter of Land Regularisation Scheme applications, Krishna Babu said about 16,000 applications belong to the LB Nagar and Kukatpally Circles. “If these are properly dealt with at the earliest, the GHMC will get `50-60 crore additional income,” the commisioner said, adding that zonal commissioners should take responsibility and dispose them at the earliest. He asked officials to also verify all commercial and official complexes which have not obtained occupancy certificates and close establishments by issuing notices.On the issue of footpaths, he asked to maintain a 8-10 feet space on main roads for free walking space and remove all encroachments. On property tax collections, hand-held computers will be used on a pilot basis in 11 circles, for collection of property tax. Krishna Babu also said revision of electoral rolls will be taken up from August 1.
