Kolkata: IPS officer SMH Mirza – one of the accused in the Narada tape case – has admitted before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that he took Rs 5 lakh from Narada News CEO Mathew Samuel but later donated the amount to a local football club in Kolkata.
Mirza was the former Superintendent of Police of West Bengal's Burdwan district. During the interrogation Mirza claimed that it was Syed Tazdar Ali Mirza, alias ‘Tiger’ who introduced him to Samuel.
“According to Mirza, initially he refused to meet Samuel. But later met him twice. During his meeting Samuel offered him money which he accepted. He claimed that he took the money after being told by the TMC leader; the amount was donated to a football club later. We are trying to find out who the TMC leader is,” said CBI sources.
The revelation came on Thursday after CBI confronted SMH Mirza with alleged middleman 'Tiger' in this connection. Both of them were interrogated for more than six hours.
“We are examining their (SMH Mirza and Tiger) bank accounts and once again we will summon them for interrogation,” CBI sources said. He also said that they have found some evidences which proves that both of them were connected to Iqbal Ahmed – Trinamool Congress MLA and Deputy Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
Ahmed – who is presently admitted in a private nursing home after he complained of chest pain on June 16 – was asked to ‘personally’ appear before the CBI on June 27 at Nizam Palace in Kolkata.
“If he (Ahmed) fails to appear before us then (after approaching a local court), we will examine him in the hospital,” CBI sources said.
On June 6, CBI summoned Iqbal Ahmed in the Narada case. The MLA from Khanakul in Hooghly district, was allegedly seen accepting a bribe in the sting operation.
