BANGALORE: The Department of Public Instruction has sent a notice to all unaided schools (except those run by unaided minority managements) warning them of action on failure of acknowledging the memo issued by Block Education Officers (BEOs) on admitting children from disadvantaged groups as per Section 12(1) (c) of the Right to Education (RTE) Act. “Through this notification, it is informed to the managements of all schools and the general public that the parents/ guardian seeking admission under sec 12(1)(c) of the Act can apply to the unaided schools for admission to standard 1 against 25% quota of seats earmarked for children belonging to disadvantaged groups and weaker sections,” the notice reads. The prescribed application form is available free of cost at the offices of the Block Education Officers and DDPIs and also in each school. The form can also be downloaded from www.schooleducation.kar.nic.in The last date for submission of applications for admissions is May 25. The period for selection of students in each school is May 30 to June 6. The last date for Block Education Officers approval is June 10, according to the notice. Parents facing problems with admissions can approach the jurisdictional Block Education Officer, who is the grievance redressal authority under the Right to Education Act.
