BHUBANESWAR: The Diwali celebrations in the City were marred by fire mishaps and clashes. Though none of them was major in nature, at least 17 cases of fire were reported on Wednesday night. More than 60 persons were injured, 17 of whom were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Property worth several lakhs of rupees was gutted in the accidents. The Fire Station sources said several houses at Gadakana, Ganganagar, Sundarpada, Deuliapatna and Mendhasal areas of the City went up in flames after fire spread from crackers. At Unit IV area, a garage caught fire and two bikes were gutted. A number of revellers sustained injuries during the celebrations. Reports came in from Jharpada, Sishupalgarah, Tankapani Road, Baramunda and BJB Nagar. People with burns were treated. At least, 17 of them were admitted to Capital Hospital before being referred to SCB Medical, Cuttack. Although the celebrations passed off peacefully in the city, at Mali Sahi area, the celebrations led to clash between two groups. After a missile landed at the roof of a householder, he and his community members thrashed the reveller. This led to a clash in which a person was injured.
