New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday directed the central government to find ways and means to block child pornography, saying the children cannot be made prey to painful situation. The apex court also said that the nation cannot afford to carry on experiment with children in the name of liberty and freedom of speech.
Responding to the directions of the apex court, the government said it was committed to blocking websites hosting child pornography, adding that the exercise had begun.
The government, however, expressed its reservation on blocking websites hosting adult pornographic sites. The government said that it could not get into moral issues.
The government had in August 2015 told the Supreme Court that while it was committed to blocking child pornography, it was facing technical difficulties in imposing ban across all pornographic websites.
In 2015, Union Telecom Ministry ordered internet service providers to block access to 857 websites hosting pornographic content. Later the ministry had to revoke the order, restricting it to only sites which host child pornography.
