Fashion Week, la-la and oh dear!
Fashion Week, la-la and oh dear!
Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google NewsI am loving the fashion week, I always do. Sometimes I get angry, sometimes happy, but never does it fail get a reaction.

I went into the fashionweek this time ready to lose friends, ready to annoy people, ready to take on designers, ready to fight for the future of an industry that is constantly lambasted and one I almost grew up with. I was 20 when I started to write about fashion and years later, I am ready to defend and criticise.

It's really tough for me because this place is full of friends. The best and biggest names have treated me very well. They took time off to help with my book, they were kind with their time, contacts and advice. I have actually spent a lot of time at many of their homes. So to tell them that they might be wrong and say it very harshly is very, very tough.

But this I have to do even if I lose friends. I don't want to be popular, I want to do something positive for the industry. People constantly bitch about it to me and I want to fight back. But I can't without the help of the designers.

So three days down what to I think?

Tarun Tahiliani - Thank you. You have reinstated our faith in you. Thank for showing us grandeur and the TT sense of luxury lives on. The man with the rich baritone voice has proved that his touch remains deft and he remains a master of the oomph of luxury.

Rohit Bal - He is really tough for me to criticise. I had so many wonderful Kashmiri meals at his house and he has been eternally kind. But in the last two years, I thought he was going away from himself. Trying too hard. And now he has returned with a bang. I met him today, he hugged as warmly as ever, and we had a chat. He said now what you will see of me will be me, no more trying to do things for others, because they seem like the things to do. Now I'll just be me. That's incredible and makes me very happy - and I saw that in his collection this time. Gudda, you don't need me to tell you this, but two thumbs up.

JJ Valaya - You know what happened? I met JJ, who by the way, is even doing a special event with IBN and I still criticised him on the blog, and he hugged me and laughed and said - so you will crucify me if I show you theatrics, eh? I smiled. He said I agree with every point that you have made, you have made very relevant points, keep making them. And almost as if he was addressing my issues his show was such a fuss-free delight. No nonsense, elegant, charmingly sassy wear which will fit in right with his dream of expanding into new segments and markets. Mr. Valaya, my respects.

Manish Arora - We expect the world from this man and this time he disappointed. Just so, so much deja vu clouding everything. A little bereft of inspiration so taking from all his old ideas. A bit of a rehash. Manish, I will not accept this from you.

Rocky S - Lipsmacking stuff, so good to see a new, evolved Rocky with a fantastic line of dresses for his Rocky S Noir line. Not a speck of darkness here, I was enthralled. No Bollywood star, a puppet hanging above, great fun.

Love to all. first published:September 04, 2006, 15:39 ISTlast updated:September 04, 2006, 15:39 IST
