Mumbai: Even though there is much talk of the Rani Mukerji-Saif Ali Khan-starrer Ta Ra Rum Pum which is soon to release, the actess has been maintaining a low profile.
Saif Ali Khan, on the other hand, seems to be in the swing of things as far as promoting the film is concerned.
But she hasn’t disappeared entirely. She has opted to play presenter for a fairly unknown Bengali film titled Bidhataar Lekha, under JR Entertainment and there’s a good reason why: it’s her brother Rajaa’s directorial debut while her mother Krishna and sister-in-law Jyoti have produced the film.
Both Rani and Rajaa Mukerji were in Kolkata for the film’s premiere on April 12 in the city’s Priya theatre.
The film stars Jeet, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Hrishitta Bhatt, Roopa Ganguly and Sabyasachi Chakravorthy. Lalit Pandit has provided the music.
“I’ve always dreamt of becoming a successful director. It was important to start with a Bengali film as I understand the ethos and secondly, investments are low compared to Hindi films. The film’s budget is only Rs 2 crore. Bidhataar Lekha is a story based on re-incarnation and revenge,” said Rajaa.
“The film will be released in West Bengal, Assam and Orissa. My sister is only presenting and not acting,” he added.
Rajaa Mukerji has apparently added an extra ‘a’ to his name to ensure the film’s success even though Rani has achieved success without resorting to name or spelling alterations. Yet, to support Rajaa in his maiden venture, the entire family including Rani have changed the way they spell their surname. Talk about family loyalties!
