Fake currency with face value of over Rs 29 lakh has been seized in Chhattisgarh in the past three years, state Home Minister Ramsewak Paikra on Wednesday told the Assembly.
In a written reply to a question from Congress MLA Motilal Dewangan, Paikra said: "Counterfeit currency with face value of Rs 29,60,180 was seized between 2011 and 2013 in the state and a total of 66 cases were registered in this connection."
"Besides, as many as 129 people were booked in these cases," he said. The recovery of fake currency witnessed consistent rise during this period as the counterfeit currency with face value of Rs 4,46,930 was recovered in the year 2011, which further increased to 5,51,750 in 2012, and 19,61,500 in 2013, according to the reply.
The maximum number of cases of fake currency were witnessed in Bilaspur (8), Raigarh (8), Mahasamund (7), Durg (7), Janjgir-Champa (6) and Korba (6) districts during this period, it said.
