Ex-serviceman thrashes neighbour with rifle, held

An ex-serviceman here was arrested on Saturday for allegedly thrashing his neighbour with a rifle following a dispute over raising a compound wall.

According to police, the ex-serviceman, Deivendran (45) of Srinivasan Street on Usilampatti-Peraiyur Road, had a tiff with with his neighbour Subbaiah over raising a wall between their houses.

While Deivendran is said to have attacked Subbaiah, his sons Vimal Kumar and Alageskumar and a relative Rajapandi, Subbaiah had attacked Deivendran and his wife Vairamani.

 Deivendran, who went inside the house, returned with a rifle and thrashed Subbaiah and his family with its stock, police said.

Both families lodged complaints with the Usilampatti police, who registered a case and seized the rifle.

While Subbaiah was held, Deivendran was not arrested since he was admitted to the hospital, police added. Further investigation is on.
