BANGALORE: Friends and well wishers of social activist Mumtaz Ali got together at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan to be present for the release of a documentary film showcasing his life titled ‘The Modern Mystic, Sri M of Madanapalle’ made over a span of 10 years by documentary filmmaker Raja Choudhury.Sri Mumtaz Ali travelled to the Himalayas at the age of 19 and lived there for many years with a real yogi, Babaji. He leads a normal life with a family and kids which exists side by side with his mysticism. It is this paradox that Raja Choudhury has tried to capture in his film.“I found in ‘M’, as I call Mumtaz Ali, a man very much of this world but also with a world of his own, there is a mystic in him and I have tried to bring this out by shadowing him with a camera for this film,” said Raja Choudhury at the DVD release.Artist Yusuf Arakkal who was also present at the release explained how he thought creativity needs an element of spirituality in order to succeed. “I felt closer to Sri M when I realized that he is also a painter.”“This is a film within the larger film of life and it depicts the journey of a personality. This film has shown exactly what we are all trying to achieve, it has captured a part of the movement of life,” said Mumtaz Ali.
