KOCHI: Unique dates like 11.11.11 are not common occurrences. To make it more memorable, an artists’ camp will be organised at Nanappa Art Gallery, under the aegis of Orthic Creative Centre on Friday. The number, 11, is also the number of artists participating in the camp. Eleven artists are taking part in the camp. They are, M V Devan, Namboothiri, C N Karunakaran, G Rajendran, K K Rajappan, T Kaladharan, N N Rimzon, Rajan M Krishnan, Razia Tony, Pramod Koorampala and Suresh Koothuparamba. These artists from different parts of the state, practising different forms of art, will converge at Nanappa Art Gallery at 11 am. M V Devan will inaugurate the artists’ meet at 5 pm. Namboothiri will inaugurate the camp. These artists are associated with different art institutes. Devan is linked to Kalagramam in Mahe. Rajappan and Rimzon were former principals of Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts, Mavelikkara. Rimzon is now the principal of Fine Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram, and Rajappan has a studio in Thiruvananthapuram. Suresh Koothuparamba is the vice-chairman of the Kerala Folklore Akademi in Kannur. There is no specific theme, but their works can be discerned by their style, treatment and technique.“We just chose the date for a get-together, to interact and discuss art,” said Kaladharan, founder of Nanappa Art Gallery.The camp is dedicated to artist P J Cherian, the first principal of Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts. The paintings will be exhibited for the conference being organised for his 120th birth anniversary, said Kaladharan. Incidentally, Razia Tony, grand daughter of P J Cherian, is also taking part in the camp. It is also an occasion to remember artists who have left us, Kaladharan added. The camp commences at 11 am and will come to an end at 11 pm. Later, the works will be exhibited at a one-day show in Changampuzha Park on Nov 18 and will be inaugurated by C N Karunakaran. The works will be displayed again at Nanappa Art Gallery from Nov 19 for 10 days.
