The Election Commission on Thursday announced partial relaxation of the Model Code of Conduct for five states including Odisha by allowing the state governments to undertake administrative and developmental works, official sources said.

The state governments of Maharastra, Chhattishgarh, Goa, Jharkhand and Odisha can now take up certain works which were stalled due to the MCC for the twin elections. A letter in this regard has been been served to both the Chief Secretary and Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha, a release issued by the EC said.

However, the Commission said officials involved in the election process cannot be transferred till the MCC was in force till May 28. This apart, the EC's order said no minister or politician was permitted to hold review meetings with the officials involved in election process or election management.
