BANGALORE: Union Minister for External Affairs S M Krishna charged the BJP government of neglecting the reeling drought in the state and not taking up mitigatory works.Addressing a convention of Congress delegates here on Saturday, he said that while people in the state are struggling to make ends meet, BJP leaders are fighting for power.Krishna said that though the state experienced drought thrice while he was the CM, the district machinery was pressed into service every time to tide over the crises.“The drought mitigating measures undertaken by our government is already part of history.”On the BJP’s “Chinthan Shibir” held on Friday, the minister said that BJP national president had to beat a hasty retreat inside two hours as he was unable to bear the heat of dissidence in the state party unit.“A chapter of ignominy was scripted in Karnataka, which has been held with esteem across the nation and the globe, when B S Yeddyurappa was sent to jail on corruption charges,” he said while calling for serious introspection within the party leaders and cadre. He stressed the need to bring the Congress back to power in order to revive the developmental schemes that it had implemented.Vowing to achieve the goal, Krishna said that the party by drafting him had sought to drive home the message that “we are first party workers and then ministers”.He also scotched rumours of his nursing ambitions to become the chief minister. “My aim is to infuse confidence among party cadre.”Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa, Siddaramaiah and Motamma were among those present on the occasion.
