TIRUNELVELI: The CB-CID arrested Seeni Nainar Mohamed, who has been given a double life sentence for the murder of Hindu Munnani leader Rajagopalan, on October 21, 1994. Based on his confession, the other accused in the case were nabbed. In 1996, the case was transferred to the CBI. The CBI arrested the other accused, including the prime accused Sahul Hammed of Coimbatore and Raja Hussain of Madurai in 1997 and subsequently nabbed Mohamed Subair and Jaheer Hussain of Coimbatore, and Abdul Ajeez of Madurai. First, the murder trial case was conducted at the TADA designated court in Chennai. Later it was transferred to Tirunelveli TADA designated court and the first chargesheet was filed on September 19, 1997. Special Public Prosecutor for the CBI, Suresh Subramanian, appeared in the case. After hearing the case, TADA designated court Judge Vijayaragavan on Thursday awarded life sentence to all the 5 accused - Sahul Hameed, Raja Hussain, Mohamed Subair, Jaheer Hussain and Abdul Ajeez and slapped a fine of `10,000 on each of them. The judge awarded double life sentence to the sixth accused, Seeni Nainar Mohamed, but ruled that it would run concurrently and also slapped a fine of `10,000 (` 5,000 each on two counts) on him. It may be noted that Seeni Nainar Mohamed and Raja Hussain are brothers.
