CHENNAI: Charging the State Election Commission (SEC) with being in favour of the ruling AIADMK ahead of the next week's local body elections, the DMK today sought the intervention of Tamil Nadu Governor S Rosiah for ensuring peaceful, free and fair civic polls."We have submitted a memorandum to the Governor regarding the atrocities committed by the ruling party besides the SEC working in their favour," DMK Organising Secretary, TKS Elangovan, MP, told repoters after submitting the memorandum.He said that in order to ensure the conduct of peaceful, free and fair polls, the Govenor's intervention was important.Two-phase polls for over 13,000 local bodies including 10 corporations are scheduled to be held on October 17 and 19.DMK had been charging the SEC with acting in support of its arch rival AIADMK and had already made a slew of demands including presence of independent observers to all districts on polling day, besides central security forces cover, for free and fair elections.
