The Economic Offences Unit of Bihar police on Wednesday seized disproportionate assets worth Rs 1.83 crore from a senior deputy collector, who is currently under suspension.
An FIR under Prevention of Corruption Act has been lodged against senior deputy collector of Vaishali district, Abhiram Trivedi, Additional Director General (HQ) Ravinder Kumar said.
The seized immovable assets include around 3.6 acre of land and a two-storeyed house purchased by Trivedi in the name of his wife in the north Bihar town of Muzaffarpur. A plot bought in the name of his father has also been seized, the officer added.
"Among movable assets, the raiding team recovered bank deposits, investments, insurance policies, car, ornaments and other items worth Rs 35 lakh. A double barrel gun and a revolver belonging to the senior deputy collector have also been seized," Kumar said. "We have taken the registered value of his immovable property. It would be worth several times more on market prices. Eleven bank accounts belonging to Trivedi have been traced. They will be accessed later," he said.
Trivedi came to Bihar Administrative Service in 1999 and is currently under suspension in another case. His total savings since he joined government service has been estimated to be around Rs 50 lakh.
