PUDUCHERRY: Congress on Monday upped the ante against the AINRC government with the Union Minister of State for Prime Minister’s office V Narayanasamy claiming that the days were numbered for the ‘anti-people’ administration. Addressing a rally organised by the Pradesh Congress Committee from the statue of Venkata Subba Reddiar to the Head Post Office here, Narayanasamy said the government had failed on all fronts and there was no section of people that had not been adversely affected by the mis-governance.Despite the Central government releasing Rs 125 crore for cyclone relief, by way of Rs 50 crore initially and another Rs 75 crore last week, the relief has gone undistributed, he alleged.Narayanasamy said that if relief still went undistributed, he would take up the matter with Ministry of Home Affairs for deputing an official here to ensure compliance with regard to the distribution of funds.Alleging that law and order situation has deteriorated, he said rowdy elements were getting a free hand in unlawful activities under the Rangasamy government. This had affected tourism, trade as well as industrial development. Not a single industry had come to Puducherry for investment in the last one year and even government officials were afraid of working freely and sincerely, he charged. He alleged that UT government lacked interest in the collection of `190 crore sales tax, due from Petroleum dealers. On the other hand the government, by enhancing VAT, had made the prices of essential commodities expensive than Tamil Nadu. The Congress led by Narayanasamy, had threatened to launch an agitation both inside and outside the Territorial Assembly, if the government failed to reinstate 4,000 workers who were earlier engaged by the government. Further he said that Rangasamy government, which came to power with the assurance of providing financial assistance to all students sponsored by CENTAC, had failed to do that even after seven months in power. Narayanasamy said that he was even ready to sacrifice his ministerial post, if it came in the way of his standing by Puducherry people and raising issues.Earlier speaking on the occasion, leader of opposition, V Vaithilingam said that lives of common man has been adversely affected and had to pay more for everything. He said instead of concentrating on collection of arrears, Rangasamy government has replaced the commissioner who was making efforts at recovering the dues.
