Day IV: Skipper goes, Jaffer excels
Day IV: Skipper goes, Jaffer excels
India began in a rock steady fashion, with Jaffer scoring his maiden 200 on the fourth day's play in St John's.

New Delhi: Rahul Dravid got out to a loose shot off the bowling of Dave Mohammed, but the disappointment was not for long.

Wasim Jaffer, batted with patience, and dug his teeth into the seemingly flat track and got rewarded with a double century, after having batted for a mammoth 379 balls.

India had begun their quest to set up a daunting fourth innings target for the West Indies in rock steady fashion, with Wasim Jaffer reaching his 150 on the fourth day's play in St John's, Anitigua.

Skipper Rahul Dravid too started off well, carrying over from his overnight score of 21, the two together helping India to gain the upper hand.

It was a landmark day of sorts on Sunday for Wasim Jaffer, who became the first Indian to have scored a century at St John's.

India on Sunday had posted 215 for two by the end of day's play.

Coach Greg Chappell had earlier said that a lead of about 300 or more would be an ideal target for the visitors to defend, as the last day of the Test match will bring spinners into play.
