MYSORE: A Dalit family that refused to carry the carcass of dead animals, beat drums during festivals and ceremonies and dig a pit to bury bodies, has been socially boycotted in Wadambalu village in Hunsur taluk.
Mahadeva, a dalit, was stopped from entering fields in the village. He surprised everyone by refusing to follow their dictates. Enraged over this, villagers imposed a social boycott on the family and ordered them not to enter the village. The dalit family lodged a compliant at Hunsur Rural police station. However, the police failed to take action. Villagers attacked both Mahadev and his wife Lakshmi for entering their land. The injured couple were admitted to a hospital. The dalit organisations alleged that Hunsur police were inefficient.
