Uttar Pradesh on Thursday emerged as a clear winner in combating Covid-19 spread as the state reported high testing, vaccination, recovery rate and lowest test positivity rate (TPR) indicated good performance in containment in comparison to other states.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a meeting with senior officials in a high-level Covid review meeting and called for police to continue strict vigilance on compliance of Covid appropriate behaviour.
“UP has been maintaining control over the Covid situation fairly well and in view of rising cases in other states, we must not let our guard down. Everyone must follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour, ensure usage of masks and social distancing. The police should issue a warning ahead of time through hooters, so that the shops are closed by 10 pm. People should not roam on the streets unnecessarily,” the chief minister asserted.
The state’s Covid-19 response has fared superior as it has done exceptionally well in bringing down the transmission levels by restricting the fresh cases below 100 for nearly two months.
Due to the success of the ‘UP Covid Control Model’, only 19 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported in the past 24 hours in Uttar Pradesh.
As several other major states such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are reporting daily Covid-19 cases of 31,000-3,000, the figures in comparison are higher than UP’s state active caseload. India’s most populous state has been reporting fresh cases below 50 for 16 days in a row.
With the discharge of 22 people, the state has seen 16,86,056 people recovered from the infection.
Under its widely acclaimed Covid control strategy of ‘Trace-Test-Treat’, the Yogi Adityanath-led state conducted as many as 2,16,629 Covid tests in the last 24 hours out of which nearly 1.20 lakh were RT-PCR examinations.
Following an aggressive testing regime to tame the raging disease, Uttar Pradesh also became the only state to breach the 70 million tests landmark. Uttar Pradesh has so far tested 7,12,89,637 samples for the novel coronavirus infection.
Despite aggressive tracing and testing, Uttar Pradesh’s positivity rate has been registering a steady decline for several days indicating containment of the virus spread in the state. The Covid test positivity rate (TPR) stands at 0.01 per cent, while states like Kerala have failed to register any decline and have reported positivity rate of 19.03 per cent.
It is noteworthy that the Covid testing in Kerala has also been much less than in Uttar Pradesh.
With swift recovery of Covid patients, the state’s recovery rate now stands at a good 98.6 per cent, the highest in the country. A better recovery rate is indicative of milder cases and lower fatalities in a state.
The active caseload in Uttar Pradesh has significantly declined to 342 cases from a high of over 3,10,783 cases in the span of few months. States like Kerala and Maharashtra account for a heavy active caseload of 1,70,313 and 50,183, respectively.
Upgrading its guard against a probable third Covid-19 wave and surge in cases reported in other states, instructions have been issued to make people strictly abide by night curfew rules that remain effective after 10 pm.
