PUDUCHERRY: The five AIADMK legislators, on Tuesday, staged a dharna on the steps leading to the Assembly Hall to press their demand for convening a special session of the Assembly to adopt a resolution seeking implementation of the Supreme Court directions in the Mullaperiyar Dam issue by the Kerala government.AIADMK State secretary and MLA A Anbazhagan had already urged the Chief Minister to convene a special session of the Assembly and adopt a resolution on the issue. He followed it up by writing a letter to Speaker V Sabapathy in this regard on Monday. Both delivered no results and was only met with silence from both the chief minister and speaker. As such, AIADMK MLAs Anbazhagan, Om Sakthi Segar, Purushothaman, L Periyasamy and A Baskar decided to register their demand by staging the dharna. The dharna was finally withdrawn after an hour following request by the Speaker who met the MLAs and assured them of taking a decision in consultation with Chief minister. Since the Union territory of Puducherry has territorial areas in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, a hasty decision could not be taken, the Speaker told reporters later.Anbazhagan deplored that Rangasamy was maintaining silence on all issues, when as Chief minister he should take a stand on issues that concerned the people.
