KARIMUGAL: In the wake of the bursting of the Carbon waste bund in the Philips Carbon Black Limited, District Collector Sheikh Pareeth on Monday visited the spot to assess the damage caused to the farm land and the ground water resources in the surrounding area.Varghese, whose 200 rubber plants were totally destroyed in the Carbon waste, submitted a complaint seeking compensation from the company. Carbon Malineekarana Virudha Samithi activists also submitted a complaint seeking an ultimate solution to the increasing pollution problem raised by the company.Meanwhile, the company authorities, in a statement, said that the tank was not a waste storage bund, but a reservoir to store the rain water. However, the Collector along with the Carbon Malineekarana Virudha Samithi members inspected the spot and were convinced about the pollution caused owing to the explosion of the bund. He assured the locals that a report on his visit will soon be submitted to the government for further action.
