Collector orders clean up of new bus stand

VELLORE: District collector S Nagarajan conducted a surprise inspection at the new bus stand area and ordered officials who accompanied him to evict encroachers. The inspection followed complaints against shops that have encroached on the bus stand area, excess fee charged at the two-wheeler parking lots and the bad condition of toilets, besides other complaints about bus operations.Accompanied by the corporation commissioner Seeni Ajmal Khan, the collector ordered encroachments to be removed as well as cleaning up the bus stand. He also suggested making use of SHGs and NGOs to handle garbage management in the area. Later, he visited Thorapadi, Ariyur, Bagayam, Edayansathu, Konavattam and Dharapadavedu areas that have been recently attached to the Vellore corporation. He also inspected the fish market that is coming up on Bangalore Road.Commissioner Ajmal Khan, when contacted, said that the encroachments in the bus stand area would be removed in a few days with the help of police. Besides this, 24 shops that have been constructed in the bus stand woule be auctioned on December 28. Five of these shops will be allocated to the Cooperative Department and one to differently-abled people.
