HYDERABAD: The APPSC Group-I examination will be held as scheduled from September 25.Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has rejected the request for postponement of the APPSC Group I services examination. His decision follows a direction from the High Court division bench earlier in the day asking the government to hold the examination as scheduled from September 25.The division bench comprising justice VVS Rao and justice KG Shanker dismissed a batch of writ petitions dealing with the notification issued for the selection of candidates for the Group I Services. However the bench directed the inclusion of candidates who had obtained 83 marks in the preliminary examination. This would involve about 1,004 candidates for the examination scheduled for September 25.The bench declared that it was not for the court to direct the computation or filling up of vacancies as that fell within the domain of executive decision- making. The bench also turned down the request to postpone the test by two weeks. The bench reasoned that since the exercise only involved downloading and uploading the hall tickets the time was sufficient and did not warrant the court to direct any postponement. Those who had acquired the eligibility with the court order today met the chief minister and sought his intervention for postponement on the ground that they spent time fighting the legal battle and had no time to prepare for the examination. But the chief minister said he could not help them since there was a court order against postponement. The APPSC conducted preliminary examinations on September 5 and October 25 last year. The APPSC decided that 83 per cent should be the cut off mark.About 1,047 secured the 83 per cent in the preliminary examination, but the APPSC qualified only 43 candidates out of 1,047 on the basis of their age to meet the 1:50 ratio to the posts.Six aspirants of the 1,004 left out filed an appeal with the AP Administrative Tribunal (APAT) on December 28, 2010.In the long-drawn litigation the APAT dismissed the aspirants’ petition on September 14 this year. The aspirants then filed a writ petition on September 16 before a division bench of the High Court comprising justice VVS Rao and justice KG Shankar. The bench on Friday gave a ruling asking the APPSC to allow all the candidates who secured 83 marks in the preliminary examination to write the mains.
