Class XII Student Commits Suicide Fearing Failure in Board Exam

Coimbatore: A 16-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide hours before the results of Class XII board examinations were declared on Tuesday.

Police sources said, he took the extreme step fearing failure in the examination. "He scored 498 out of 500 in board examination but in 12th, he scored 821 out of 1100," he said.

Shakti Ganesh, a student of private school in Karamadai, hanged himself in his house in Periyanaickenpalayam on the city outskirts when his parents had gone out.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Ganesh - son of a retired postal employee - had expressed fear that he may score lower marks or fail in the examinations, which led to the suicide even before the results were announced.
