HYDERABAD: Kerala chief minister Oomen Chandy said a new legislation to implement 'Right to Services' would be introduced in his state to benefit people. "I want to change the system to simplify citizen services,'' he claimed.
At a "Meet the Press" programme organised by the Press Club here on Wednesday, Chandy said his government has already prepared a draft policy on "Right to Services" and was on the job of inviting suggestions from employees and the public. "We want to ensure that the citizens do not get services at mercy, but as their right. Employees will be taken into confidence for effective implementation of the law. When I became chief minister four months ago, there were about three lakh ration card applications pending. I changed the system and directed the officials concerned to first deliver the ration card on the day of submission of application and then start enquiring the details mentioned by the applicant. I asked them to cancel the card if the facts mentioned in the affidavit were false,'' he added.

Asked about the wealth of Sri Padmanabha Swamy temple at Tiruvananthapuram, Chandy asserted that the government would give full security to the temple's wealth.
