CHENNAI: Suicide pact or homicide? Mystery surrounds the death of an octogenarian woman and her daughter, after their decomposed bodies were found at their apartment on Sunday. With all the valuables in the house intact and no signs of struggle or external injuries, police, while suspecting a case of suicide, are awaiting the autopsy report.The duo Lalitha (84) and Yogajayam (64) lived a rented apartment on Ramanajur Street in Alwarthirunagar. The woman also has three sons. “Since her daughter was widowed, with her son married and staying abroad, Lalitha lived with her,” Joint Commissioner (South Zone) K P Shanmugarajeswaran told Express.At around 3 pm on Sunday that their bodies were discovered, when Yogajayam’s son Rajesh, sensing something amiss asked his mother-in-law Uma, a resident of Vadapalani, to go to their house and check. “The bodies were decomposed and so, the deaths must have occurred 24-36 hours earlier,” said the senior police official.The police recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. Welder MurderedA welder Kumar (37) was stabbed to death by a gang at Sembium, on Saturday. He was a residentof Perambur, and worked in a company at Parrys. He had gone to a Tasmac shop and while walking back home, he entered into an altercation with an auto driver, Devaraj. Devaraj’s friends Johnny and Durai broke out into a fisticuff with Kumar. Johnny, reportedly, pulled out a knife and stabbed Kumar, who sustained severe injuries. Police said R Jayaraman (52) returned late on Friday evening, when he saw two men, Velu and Murthy, consuming alcohol in the middle of the road. He scolded them. An argument broke out and the two men left. Velu and four of his friends Suresh, Raja, Manikandan and Ramesh came to Jayaraman’s house on Saturday. Tracing his mobile they informed him that they were standing outside his house. Jayaraman, who came out of his house along with his son Vinod Kumar, was then assaulted with stones and knives by the gang. Jayaraman died on the spot.]
