HYDERABAD: About 30,000 cattle were slaughtered during the Bakrid festival in violation of various animal welfare acts and the guilty should be given stringent punishment, Vishwa Hindu Parishad general secretary Praveen Togadia said on Friday. He wanted the state government to form a committee to catch the culprits.Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Togadia came down heavily on chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, “The chief minister did nothing to prevent rampant cow slaughter in the city.” He added that despite lodging complaints against those who indulged in cow slaughtering, the persons responsible have not yet been arrested.“Is this a Nizam’s government? The Congress government is making Hyderabad a second Kashmir. Kiran Kumar Reddy should step down and undertake a yatra to Kashi,’’ he remarked.Referring to the visit of US evangelist and missionary Franklin Graham as part of the ‘Hyderabad Children’s Festival, Togadia demanded he be sent back immediately as he came on a visit visa and participating in religious activities was a violation of visa norms.“Members of the Hindu community should ensure no evangelist or missionary enters the country for conversions,’’ he said.Referring to 31 accused who were recently sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2002 post- Godhra riots in Gujarat, the VHP leader said all of them were innocent. On the proposed Communal and Targeted Violence (Prevention) Bill, the VHP leader said it will lead to more violence as it is a ‘certificate’ for jihadis. Later, Togadia inaugurated a website of the AP unit of VHP- www.vhpap.org and said through the website, people can get information about activities of the organisation.
