Catch 22: I want Modi as PM but don't want to vote for the local BJP candidate

While tens of thousands of voters on Wednesday came out to exercise their franchise to elect their public representatives and do their bit in the government formation at the Centre, a politically crucial question came to my mind - What if one wants to see Narendra Modi as PM due his heavy-duty development agenda and youth-oriented policies but doesn't want to vote for the local BJP candidate?

I am a voter from Kanpur Lok Sabha constituency of the politically-crucial Uttar Pradesh. Out of 543, the state sends 80 MPs to the lower house of the Parliament (Lok Sabha). According to local voters and political experts, Kanpur Lok Sabha seat is expected to witnessed neck-to-neck electoral battle between BJP's Murli Manohar Joshi and Congress' candidate Sriprakash Jaiswal.

Taking specifically my case into consideration, I didn't want to vote for Murli Manohar Joshi as currently he represents Varanasi as an MP and I've been to Varanasi and witnessed the plight of the city of temples, especially ghats which are nowadays lay in a shambles. Hence, on the basis of his

development-based electoral profile, I didn't want to vote for him.

I fully and comprehensively understand that this will dent my dream to see BJP's PM nominee Narendra Modi as the next PM of India but at the same time I want Kanpur Nagar to develop as a city. I also understand that Members of Parliament play an important role in making laws but what we as aware and responsible citizens should be abreast of that an MP can also utilise funds from a scheme called Member of Parliament Local Area

Development scheme (MPLADS).

Under the scheme, every MP can suggest to the concerned district collector for the development-related works to the tune of Rs 5 crore per annum in his/her constituency. The Government of India's Member of Parliament Local Area Development Division is entrusted with the responsibility of implementation of MPLADS.

I am upset that my decision, backed by facts and logic, will hurt my 'Modi for PM' dream but I can't give my hometown Kanpur into someone's hands who is responsible (not fully but upto an extent) for the poor condition of the holy city Varanasi.
